Frequently asked questions
What should I expect during a therapy session?
Our first session together is 80 minutes. We will review paperwork, discuss goals and expectations, and establish my office as a safe space where honest dialogue and curiosity can thrive.
Subsequent sessions are typically 50 minutes (longer sessions are available if needed). During these sessions we will collaboratively work toward your goals. We will discuss any challenges that are holding you back and how to overcome these challenges. As each client has a unique story and unique goals, my therapeutic approach will be adapted to address your specific needs.
Do you take insurance?
I do not accept insurance at this time. This allows me to focus my energy on providing the highest quality of care to my clients and allows for more confidentiality, flexibility of treatment modalities, and customization of services for each client.
If you have insurance, I can provide a superbill that you can submit to them, and they may or may not reimburse you.
How long will I be in therapy?
How long a client/couple will remain in therapy depends on a variety of factors. Most importantly, it depends on the goals you are looking to achieve. For short-term goals, most clients are able to see positive change and end therapy in less than six months. If a client is looking to work through deeper issues, this may require more time. Clients are always free to terminate therapy or reduce the frequency of therapy sessions when they feel ready. My job is to help you work toward positive change and prepare to deal with life’s challenges on your own.
How frequently will we have therapy sessions?
Building a trusting and secure relationship with my clients is a core value of my therapy practice. Weekly sessions are recommended at the beginning, but I understand that therapy is an investment. If weekly sessions are not feasible due to time or finances, I am happy to begin our therapeutic process with biweekly sessions. We can work together to create the right schedule for you.
Can I bring a family member, partner, or friend to therapy?
Yes! As a licensed marriage and family therapist associate and alcohol/drug counselor (LMFTA, ADCP) I received education and training in relational therapy. I believe our well-being is impacted by the systems (family, culture, religion, work, friend group, etc.) we are a part of. Prior to bringing someone with you to therapy, we will collaborate on what the goals of the session will be, and how this person fits into the process of you reaching your goals.
